A bit about me…

I’m Maz Hawes (Maryanne is my ‘real’ name!) If you don’t know me, you won’t know that I find it difficult to write enthusiastically about myself. So, in the style of the Sunday Papers I have interviewed myself. More weird and wonderfully obtuse questions welcome- leave me a comment telling me what you’d like to know:)

You may not know it but….

I’m very good at remembering the Latin names of plants…

The last time I cried...

Frequently, usually when listening to the ‘Makes me Cry’ playlist on my iPod…

When I was a child I wanted to be…

A solo round the world sailor.

Movie heaven…

Amelie, Once, Moulin Rouge, The Boat That Rocked (I know, but it has a special meaning for me…)

My house is...

Very long, very thin and very tall. And constantly full of music thanks to my talented and melodious family.

My bad habits…

Of course I don’t have any, apart from a tendency to use inappropriately pretentious words such as ‘zeitgeist’ and ‘oxymoronic’

If I could change one thing about myself...

Bad eyesight, a tendency towards motion sickness, and my love for pointless questionnaires. Oh, only one thing?

Secret crush…

My Nespresso machine, the smell of a new book, Dr House MD and the Red Hot Chili Peppers

My most valuable possession…

My family. Priceless, irreplaceable, unique.

What I see when I look in the mirror…

My mother, and the laughter and tears of years past written on my face, for good or bad.

My greatest regret…

Being ‘sensible’ and working pointlessly for local government for 10 years instead of following my creative instincts.

Why do you photograph people?

Because I love them, and I can’t not.

Things I say too much…

“Just one more…”

If I wasn’t a photographer I’d like to be…

A Booker Prize judge or an art therapist.

My life in six words…

Colourful, noisy, and as yet, unfinished

In ten years time I hope to be…

The same but thinner.
